Śauca (cleaning)
It’s an important prerequisite for Yogic practice. It includes a clean body and mind. It is very important to feel very light & active, so that the practice will be more effective & beneficial. Yogic practice should be done on an empty stomach or light stomach. Consume a small amount of organic honey in lukewarm water if you feel weak.

Body – For morning practice, a proper cleaning of the intestines is recommended. For evening practice, there should be a minimum of 2½ hours gap after having a meal. According to the Yogic texts, a healthy person who has a good digestive system should get fresh 2 times a day. Bladder and bowels should be empty before starting Yogic practice.
Mind – Sleep is one of the best ways to relax the mind, a quality sleep ofcourse. It’s recommended to have a min 6 and max 8 hours of sleep in the night. Similarly, a 45 mins nap is recommended in the afternoon, just after lunch. This will help the mind to be prepared positively for the practice so that the sync of body & mind could happen flawlessly. Also, one should be very much mentally positive for the upcoming practice.
Outfit
The skin is one of the most sensitive parts of the human body and it matters what we wear during the practice. Just like the nose, our skin also breathes and for that it is important to make sure that skin is not tied/ wrapped tightly. Light and comfortable cotton clothes are preferred to facilitate easy movement of the body. One should wear loose and skin friendly fabric clothes for the yoga practice. Some skin friendly fabrics are – Organic cotton, Silk, Hemp, Linen & Wool. Among these, Cotton is highly recommended for Yoga Practice. Polyester fabric is the worst for skin.
OTHERS
- The Yoga Mat – Yoga mat should be neat & clean. Use your own yoga mat and make sure it is not used by anyone in the past or future. Treat your mat with all love & care. Remember, your mat is your companion in your fitness journey.
- Water bottle – Bring a water bottle with you (Luke warm/ room temperature), so that In case your body gets cramps or if you feel dehydrated, have a few sips of water. Don’t drink too much water, it will make you feel tired & heavy.
- Handkerchief or Napkin – This is to wipe sweat off your body.
- The space – Make sure you have a good enough space where you can place the mat properly and stretch yourself. The obstacles should not restrict your flow of practice.

MANTRAS :
What’s Mantra?
Mantra means a sound, a certain utterance or a syllable. Today, modern science sees the whole existence as reverberations of energy, different levels of vibrations. Where there is a vibration, there is bound to be a sound. So, that means, the whole existence is a kind of sound, or a complex amalgamation of sounds – the whole existence is an amalgamation of multiple mantras. Of these, a few mantras or a few sounds have been identified, which could be like keys. If you use them in a certain way, they become a key to open up a different dimension of life and experience within you. — Sadhguru
How do Mantras work?
Mantras operate through the harmonious interplay of vibrational energy, repetition, and focused intention. When chanted, their specific sound vibrations resonate deeply within the body and mind, fostering balance, inner calm, and serenity. The act of repetition strengthens their impact, influencing the subconscious and calming the nervous system, which may reduce stress and enhance concentration.
Mantras could be an extremely good preparatory step. Just one mantra can do such tremendous things to people. They can be an effective force in creating something but only if they come from that kind of a source where there is a complete understanding of all that is sound. When we say “all that is sound,” we are talking about the creation itself. If a mantra comes from that kind of source, with that level of understanding and when the transmission is pure, then mantras can be an effective force.
The Science Behind Mantras :
As a science, it is a very powerful dimension, but if it is imparted without the necessary basis and without creating the necessary situations, it can cause lots of damage because this is a subjective science. There are different types of mantras. Every mantra activates a particular kind of energy in a different part of the body. Without that necessary awareness, just repeating the sound only brings dullness to the mind. Any repetition of the sound always makes your mind dull. But when it is done with proper awareness, with exact understanding of what it is, a mantra could be a very powerful means. A person can cause damage to itself by the improper utterance of any mantra.
